Romania's accession to the European Union on 1 January 2007 played a significant role in the drafting of this legislation. Thus, both before and after the date of accession, Romania has taken steps to transpose EU and European Community legislation on the environment and to implement them at national level. Transitional periods have been obtained for the implementation of the specific environmental provisions established by EU legislation through the Accession Treaty of 2005. This paper represents an overview of the actual status of the public policy for environmental protection is or was developed by the Romanian government in the last 15 years. ER -
